Introduction to Theatre Essay guideline What to write … Topic A (Mandatory): If you are seeing another play, access the script and select a single scene from Act I. Take a moment to read the sample material from the script and describe what artistic choices were made to bring these concepts, ideas and words to life in the production. Did you agree or disagree with the way the production presented it? Did you like the choices or did you envision something different? Topic B (Choose 2 – 3 of the prompts below): Did the actors make the characters believable? How did the audience react during the performance? What do you think the overall meaning of the play was? What was your overall opinion of the production? Would you recommend this production to a friend or a family member? All papers must be at least 1000 words which is approximately three (3-4) pages long double spaced or 2-3 pages single spaced. Do not begin your paper half way down the first page by filling the header space with name, class information. This critique is for your benefit. Shortening it will only be cheating yourself. Font size can be 10, 11 or 12 point. Single or double spaced is also acceptable. Please do not re-tell the plot! Your instructor is more than familiar with this plot. Use the actor’s real name, not character name, when discussing their performance. Names can be found in your program.
