Paper details A group lab report is to be submitted in bound hard copy. There will be three students in a group and students shall form their own lab groups. A student must select his/her preferred lab class (via on-line tutorial registration). Once a student has selected a lab class, changing to another class is NOT possible for reasons like the other groups might be full. If a student misses practical class without valid reason, he/she will automatically FAIL the unit and his/her lab report will not be marked. If a student misses the lab class for valid reason (e.g. health factor), he/she must send an email to the Unit Convenor stating the reason and attaching the necessary supporting documents (e.g. medical certificate). If the Unit Convenor accepts the reason, he/she will send an approval email to the student and will allow preparing the group lab report. Examples of invalid reasons for missing lab: (a) I forgot to attend the right class; (b) I had to go to work; (c) I missed the train/bus; (d) I mixed up with dates and weeks; (e) My car broke down. A student shall be doing two labs. In the report, each lab should have about 1,000 words and each lab should contain introduction, literature review, method, results and discussion, conclusion and reference section. Total length of the lab report: Lab 1 – 1,000 words (approximately) and Lab 2 – 1,000 words (approximately) (Total length: 2,000 words (approximately). Further details are provided below for each lab: Introduction: It should contain general statement, objectives of the experiment and structure of the report. (Relative weight in marking: 5%) Literature review: It should contain a critical review of the concept and method used with reference to at least 5 published journal papers on the subject matter. Journal papers can be found from http://scholar.google.com.au/. Use keywords like Bernoulli principle fluid, and pipe friction in the Google Scholar to find journal articles. (Relative weight in marking: 25%)
