Select a passage from Anne of Green Gables for a close reading analysis. The passage you select should be no less than three paragraphs and no more than a page. The passage should be about the inner child that has come out in Marilla since Anne came to Green Gables and why this is important. Really go off the wall in your explanation. Before you start writing, closely read through your passage several times, noting key themes, images, characterization, metaphors, symbols, allusions, theoretical concepts, cultural relevance, etc. As you begin to write, you will briefly identify your passage at the start of your essay, but do not directly quote the entire passage or summarize it in too much depth. Your introduction should also provide a strong thesis statement to guide your analysis, which should be located at the end of the first paragraph. Although your thesis may focus exclusively on your selected passage, it can also draw on a broader theme addressed throughout the text. In the body of the essay, you will write a close reading analysis of the passage, continuing to develop and support your argument with textual evidence and quotes. While it is acceptable to draw from other passages in the text to support your claim, your focus should primarily be on the main passage you selected.
