Pick a piece a song that has special significance to you

Pick a piece a song that has special significance to you. The song may speak to you because you like the artist/band/genre, and/or the style and emotional impact of the song, but I want you to feel that you have a personal connection to the song. Compare your song to another song by a different artist in a different genre. For example, you could pick a song sung by Elvis Presley, which would be classified as early Rock and Roll, and contrast that with a song by Bob Dylan. You may pick any two songs in any two genres. You may pick from songs that we have studied in class but you don’t have to! Write a paper comparing the two songs using the following subject areas:

1.) The Element of Music
Rhythm
Melody
Harmony
Dynamics
Timbre
Form

2.) Social/Political Message (if any)

3.) Emotional Impact

4.) Historical Information re: the Writing of Your Songs
You do not need to include a lot of biographical information on the artist(s); I am looking for any special circumstances surrounding the writing of your songs. For example, did the artist write this song in response to a political, cultural, or personal issue that the artist was experiencing at the time?

What are the 7 elements of music and what do they mean?

There are seven of these: Pitch, Duration, Dynamics, Tempo, Timbre, Texture and Structure. Pitch is the degree of highness or lowness of a tone. Duration is the length of time a note lasts for.
